The vision of this project is to turn Penang into a ‘Sculpture Island’. Well-known international Malaysian and Asian sculptors will be invited to contribute towards making this dream a reality. These Asian artists will lend their expertise and time pro bono to create one sculptured art piece each which will then be displayed at appropriate sites on the island of Penang.

From Paper to Form: Under a Penang Sky

'Under a Penang Sky', a sculpture by Kikuchi Mitsuo, an artist from Japan, is finally completed in September 2009. The installation work took around two weeks and has been made possible through joint-community efforts. The final sculpture is composed by four pieces of white marble with each marble piece weighing around 2 tons. When all four pieces came together to meet its intended form, a contrast between man made and nature manifests itself through its contrasting surfaces. This sculpture will be launched officially on 4th February 2010 and will also mark the official launch of Penang Sculpture Trail Project.
